Chapter - 01

It was early morning, the kind of quiet that wrapped the world in peace. Soft sunlight slipped through the curtains, gently touching the room.

She slowly opened her eyes, still lost between sleep and wakefulness. Before she could move, she felt something warm and small wrapped around her waist.

A tiny hand.

She turned her head slightly and saw her daughter, Diya, sleeping peacefully beside her, her little face calm, her breath soft and steady. A faint smile appeared on her lip.

Carefully, she pulled her closer, wrapping her arms around the little girl. Leaning down, she placed a soft kiss on Diya's cheek. The child stirred slightly but didn't wake, only holding her tighter in her sleep.

For a few quiet moments, she stayed like that-holding her, feeling her warmth, as if the whole world existed only in that small embrace.

Then, slowly and gently, she removed those tiny arms from around her waist, making sure not to disturb her sleep. She adjusted the blanket around her daughter and stood up quietly.

With one last look at Diya, she walked away softly, heading to freshen up, while the morning light continued to glow around the little girl still lost in her dreams.

After two hours, she was standing in the kitchen, busy preparing breakfast and lunch. The soft clinking of utensils filled the house as the morning slowly came alive.

Suddenly, she felt a tiny figure hugging her waist from behind.

"Amma..."(Mom)

She smiled instantly, a soft chuckle escaping her lips. Turning around, she lifted her daughter into her arms and kissed her cheek gently. In return, she got a sweet little giggle that melted her heart.

"Good morning, Diya..." she said softly.

"Good morning, maa!" Diya replied in her usual energetic voice, her eyes shining with excitement.

"Seri va amma... help panren... fresh up aagalam,"

(Okay come, Amma… I’ll help you… to freshen up.)

she said, brushing her hair back lovingly.

But Diya immediately shook her head and wriggled down from her arms.

"No mommy! Naa big girl aagiten... so naa dha fresh up aaven!"

(No, Mommy! I’ve become a big girl… so I’ll freshen up by myself!)

She raised an eyebrow playfully and chuckled. "Verum six years dha madam ungalukku..."

(Excuse me, madam… you’re just six years old!)

Diya instantly placed her tiny hands on her hips and gave her mom a serious glare.

But that only made her laugh even more.

Before she could pick her up again, Diya quickly ran away, her little footsteps echoing through the house.

"Naaney fresh up aagipen maaa!"

(I can freshen up on my own, Mom…)

she shouted while running.

She stood there for a moment, smiling to herself, watching her daughter run off with so much confidence, her heart filled with a quiet, overwhelming love.

It was already 8:30. Both of them rushed around, getting ready while constantly disturbing each other in between.

"Amma... time aachi ma! Seekiram vaa!"

(Mom… it’s getting late! Come fast!)

Diya shouted from the hall.

"Ayyo ama la..."

(Oh no… that’s right!)

she replied, hurrying as she grabbed her handbag and bike key from the table.

She walked into the hall and saw Diya already standing there, neatly dressed, her school bag on her shoulders and lunch bag in her hand, ready to go.

A small proud smile appeared on her face.

They stepped out together and locked the door. The morning air was fresh as she started the bike.

Diya carefully climbed onto the back, settling in slowly before wrapping her tiny arms around her mother's waist.

"Ready ah?" she asked.

"Ready!" Diya replied excitedly.

With that, they left, the bike moving smoothly through the busy morning roads.

After about twenty minutes, they finally reached the school, the place already filled with children, laughter, and the start of another new day.

She parked the bike, and both of them got down.

As they walked towards the school gate, the morning buzz of children and parents filled the air.

Just as they stepped inside, another tiny figure came running towards her.

"Ammaaa!"🥰(mom)

He ran straight into her and hugged her waist tightly.

She immediately bent down, her face softening, and kissed his cheek gently.

"Good morning, Dev chellam..." she said lovingly.

"Good morning, maa," Dev replied with a bright smile.

She adjusted his hair and said, "Papa kita lunch iruku... vangiko, seriya?"

(Your lunch is with sister diya… take it, okay?)

Dev nodded obediently and placed a quick kiss on his mother's cheek.

She kissed Dev's cheek... and then gently kissed Diya's too.

Diya stood beside him, smiling.

Together, Diya and Dev waved at her and started walking towards the school building, their small steps full of energy.

She stood there for a few more seconds, watching her children until they disappeared inside the building.

With a small breath, she turned and walked out through the school gates towards her bike.

Just as she reached it-

A hand suddenly caught her wrist.

"Thendral... please di..."

She froze for a second.

Yes... her name was Thendral.

Slowly, she turned her face, her expression immediately turning cold.

"Kai vidu, Adhithya."

(Let go of my hand, Adhithya.)

Her voice was calm, but firm.

Without waiting for his response, she pulled her hand away from his grip.

Not even sparing him another glance, she wore her helmet, started the bike, and drove away-

as if nothing had happened...

as if he didn't exist anymore.

---

Adhithya's POV🥺

I had dropped Dev at school... just like every day.

And just like every day-

I stayed back.

Waiting.

For her.

For My Thendral.

I stood near my jeep, my eyes fixed on the school gate, my heart already restless even before she arrived.

Then I saw her.

She came on her bike... with Diya holding her tightly from behind.

For a moment, everything inside me softened.

They looked... happy.

She smiled at Diya... spoke to her gently... kissed her cheek...

Then Dev came running towards her

"Amma!"

And she bent down, hugged him, kissed him, spoke to him with the same love.

I stood there, watching everything.

A complete family-

right in front of me...

But I was not a part of it anymore.

I was there... yet I wasn't theirs anymore.

Guilt tightened inside my chest.

I was the one who separated them.

I was the reason this distance existed.

I knew I was wrong.

I knew it every single day.

Still... somewhere deep inside...

I thought she would give me at least one chance.

One chance to explain.

One chance to fix things.

But she didn't even spare me a glance.

Not once.

It was as if I didn't exist.

After both the kids walked inside, I couldn't stop myself anymore.

I walked towards her and held her hand.

"Thendral... please di..."

For a second... I hoped.

But she immediately pulled her hand away.

"Kai vidu, Adhithya."

(Let go of my hand, Adhithya.)

That was it.

No anger.

No emotion.

Just... distance.

She left.

Just like that.

I stood there, frozen.

Regret hit me again-

like it always does.

For the past few months, I've been living with it.

Every single day.

I should have explained everything to her back then.

I should have stopped her.

But I didn't.

Because I thought-

she wouldn't go anywhere.

I thought she would stay.

So I believed...

there was no need.

Now...

That one mistake is costing me everything. 💔
